Jerry Jones did not single anyone out after Sunday's 33-30 overtime loss to Arizona. He blamed everybody.
"We just did not play well enough, at all, to win that ball game," the Cowboys owner said after Dallas lost a 14-point fourth-quarter lead at AT&T Stadium. "So it's an indictment of the whole show."
Asked whether coaching changes were coming, Jones shut the question down. "We're not gonna get into anything," he said. "That's not in my mind at this time."
He also said the loss would hurt everyone in the building: "This will be very difficult for each individual player, coaches, me — everybody involved."
Schottenheimer takes the blame
Brian Schottenheimer, in his second season as head coach, put it on himself.
"I'm going to always own my part of this as the head football coach," he said. "It starts with me."
He also backed the people around him. "I believe in our staff, I believe in our players," Schottenheimer said. "I believe in Dak Prescott. I believe in Shemar James. I believe in Quinnen Williams."
'I like the way we're trending'
On Tuesday, on his regular spot on 105.3 The Fan, Jones went further and defended the defense he rebuilt this year.
"We've changed out on our defense, we've changed out our coaching staff, complete coaching staff," he said. Christian Parker is the Cowboys' fourth defensive coordinator in four years. Jones said the situation "does not call for very succinct, important changes because I like the way we're trending."
That defense ranks last in the league against the run, allowing 152.8 rushing yards a game, and Arizona's Tyler Allgeier ran for 143 yards after halftime on Sunday.
No selling
Jones also made clear the Cowboys will not be sellers before the Nov. 10 trade deadline, even at 3-5. He is open to adding a player, but he said nothing is close. "Everything, everything, depends upon the deal," he said. "At this particular time, I don't see anything."
"We like what we put together," Jones added. "I'm really pleased with what we've done, progress we've done."
Dallas plays at Indianapolis on Sunday, Nov. 8, at noon Central on FOX.
