Eight games in, the Cowboys are 3-5 and have not won two games in a row. They are also very much alive, because the NFC East is having a down year.
The division
- New York Giants, 4-2-1
- Dallas Cowboys, 3-5
- Washington Commanders, 2-4-1
- Philadelphia Eagles, 2-6
Dallas is 2-1 in the division, with wins over Washington and at Philadelphia and a season-opening loss at the Giants. It still plays the Giants and Washington once each and the Eagles again on Thanksgiving.
In the wider NFC, Dallas sits 13th, two games behind the seventh and final playoff spot, which belongs to 5-3 Green Bay for now. The Cowboys are 2-4 against NFC teams.

November is the chance. Three of the next four games are at AT&T Stadium, and the one road game is against a 2-6 Colts team that is trading away veterans. December is harder: a Monday night trip to Seattle and a game at the Rams.
Thanksgiving
The Eagles come to Arlington on Nov. 26, a month after Dallas won 38-21 in Philadelphia. With that win, the Cowboys lead the all-time series 76-59, counting the playoffs. Last season Dallas came back from 21 points down to beat Philadelphia 24-21 in Arlington, tying the franchise record for the biggest comeback.
The numbers that matter
Dallas has scored 219 points and allowed 213. The offense is there: Dak Prescott has 2,046 passing yards and 14 touchdowns, CeeDee Lamb has 709 receiving yards and six touchdowns, and Javonte Williams has eight rushing touchdowns. The run defense is not. It ranks last in the league, at 152.8 yards a game.
"At this point, talk is cheap," Prescott said after the Arizona loss. "We've got to go write our own story."
