Auburn plays at Georgia on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Sanford Stadium in Athens. Kickoff is 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC, ESPN or SECN.

The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry

Both schools call this series the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry, since no other pair of Deep South programs has played each other as long without a break. (Wofford and Furman, who first met in 1889, make their own claim.) The first game was on Feb. 20, 1892, at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, and Auburn won 10-0. Georgia leads the all-time series 66-56-8 through 130 meetings, as of Oct. 11, 2025.

Georgia has won the last three: 27-20 at Auburn on Sept. 30, 2023; 31-13 in Athens on Oct. 5, 2024; and 20-10 at Auburn on Oct. 11, 2025. The series was played at a neutral site in Columbus, Georgia, from 1916 to 1958, and it comes with its own lore: Auburn's "War Eagle" cheer is said to have started in this game, a claim that is disputed, along with the 1986 fire-hose incident at Jordan-Hare and the 2013 "Prayer at Jordan-Hare."

Where each team stands

Georgia is 5-0 and 3-0 in the SEC under Kirby Smart, now in his 11th season, and was ranked No. 2 in both the AP and Coaches polls as of Oct. 10. The Bulldogs beat Tennessee State 63-3 and Western Kentucky 70-20, won 45-17 at Arkansas, beat Oklahoma 41-13 on Sept. 26 and beat Vanderbilt 38-14 on Oct. 3.

Auburn is 3-2 and 1-2 in the SEC in Alex Golesh's first season, and was unranked in the Oct. 4 AP poll. The Tigers beat Baylor 17-16 in Atlanta on Sept. 5 and Southern Miss 43-8, lost 44-39 to Florida, beat Vanderbilt 21-15 and fell 24-14 at Tennessee on Oct. 3. A week after this trip, Auburn hosts LSU on Oct. 24.

The tailgate

At Georgia, the day happens on Herty Field and Myers Quad on North Campus, near Sanford Stadium, the stadium "between the hedges." Auburn's pregame tradition is Tiger Walk: the team walks through the crowd to the stadium, and Toomer's Corner, at College and Magnolia, gets rolled after a win. That is a home-game tradition in Auburn, not Athens.

What to watch

Georgia has won the last three in the series, and the very first one, 134 years ago, went to Auburn.
