Stop us if you’ve heard this before: Cornerback Antonio Cromartie’s talking about coming to the Cowboys. And he told it to Michael Irvin over Twitter after the Cowboys great lamented the team missing out on picking up Adam Jones.
I was flying that must have just happened. Damn we need a corner with some DOG IN HIM. https://t.co/oKTBFICtc8

But this isn’t the first time Cromartie has flirted with the Cowboys. This time last year, he was saying on ESPN that he was the Cowboys’ missing piece.
“They’re only missing one key piece and that’s the piece in the secondary,” Cromartie said, “and I feel like I can be that piece to help and go in and win a championship and get the Dallas Cowboys back where they’re supposed to be.”
Cromartie, a former first-round pick, then said it’s always been childhood dream to play for the Cowboys.
After all that talk, he spent last season with the Jets on a 4-year, $32 million deal. Then he was cut last month.
Cromartie has 31 career interceptions, but has seen that production tail off recently. He hasn’t had more than three picks in a season since 2011. And last season, he had zero in 15 starts. After a solid run of seasons with tackle numbers in the 30s and 40s, Cromartie had just 26 last season.
On the bright side, Cromartie has a history of being around for his teams. He’s started at least 15 games in each of the last eight seasons.
If the Cowboys want sign Cromartie, they might want to hurry up. The man’s towing around a reported $336,000-a-year child support anchor.
