Mick Schumacher will follow in the footsteps of his father Michael, seven times world champion, with the announcement that the German will be racing in Formula 1 next season.

Young Schumacher, who currently drives in Formula Two, was announced Wednesday morning as Haas’ new driver next season.

Mick, part of the Ferrari Drivers Academy, got his first F1 test at the Scuderia Ferrari SF90 during seasonal testing at the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2019.

He was due to make his first Grand Prix weekend appearance earlier this year at the Eifel Grand Prix for Alfa Romeo, but the session was canceled due to bad weather.

The 21-year-old player had long been expected to join the team, following the announcement at the beginning of the season that Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen would be leaving the team at the end of the current season.

Haas’ social media team was further flooded with calls to “ announce Mick ” following Tuesday’s announcement that Nikita Mazepin would join the team as one of the catalysts for next season.

The lineup for next season means Haas will have two rookies in their car for 2021, but both men are first and third in the Formula Two driver stands with one race left.

Schumacher looks likely to win the championships and would need to score zero points as runner-up Callum Ilott won the race not to win.

Mazepin’s battle to stay on the podium in the championship is a little closer, Ilot can’t but can be caught with fellow Russian Robert Shwartzman just one point behind.

Haas made headlines over the weekend with Grosjean, just two races away from his time at Haas, in a shocking accident.

The Frenchman was lucky to get out of his car alive during the Bahrain Grand Prix when his car exploded on impact with a blockage.

With the 34-year-old player replaced by Pietro Fittipaldi for Sakhir’s GP this weekend, still on Bahrain track but a different route, and George Russell temporarily replacing Lewis Hamilton, after world champion ‘ positive about Covid, it was a great couple of days for driver announcements.
